- Story Text: Cuba's national baseball team arrived in Maryland Sunday (May 2) for a historic rematch against the Baltimore Orioles.
The city of Baltimore was preparing on Sunday (May 2) for a historic baseball game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Cuban national baseball team.
The Orioles' home field, Camden Yards, was decorated with a large sign commerating the event which is scheduled for Monday evening (May 2).
Outside the park, vendors sold souvenirs for the historic game.
The 25-man Cuban team and an entourage of 300 officials landed at Baltimore-Washington International Airport in a chartered Canadian AirTransat L-1011 jet.Minutes later, the giant red-white-and-blue plane rolled to the gates through the dusk against a blazing sunset.
The delegation stayed out of the sight of the news media and the public as members went through immigration and customs and then headed into limousines and buses waiting to take them to a downtown hotel in a heavily guarded motorcade.
When the entourage arrived at the hotel, the media was kept at a considerble distance from the players' buses.
Earlier in the day, a group of anti-Castro demonstrators boarded a bus in Miami to protest against Monday's game in Baltimore.
Baltimore defeated the Cubans 3-2 in a tense, 11-inning contest in Havana in March, and the Cubans are determined to get their revenge Monday night at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
