- Story Text: U.S nu-metal rockers Limp Bizkit ruled at the 8th annual MTV Europe Music Awards in Frankfurt on Thursday night, where they picked up three gongs: Best Group, Best Album and The Web Award.
But not all the accolades went Stateside. British R&B singer Craig David scooped two awards for Best R&B and Best UK and Ireland Act and 'virtual' indie band, Gorillaz went home with Best Dance and Best Song.
After weeks of hype, the annual MTV Europe music awards (purported by many to be the best music show in the world) kicked off in its usual glittering style.
Host, British comedian Ali G, opened the show in outrageous fashion by surrounding himself with bikini-clad dancers and wearing his unmistakeable 'ghetto-fabulous' wardrobe.
He was swiftly followed on stage by the current princess of pop Kylie Minogue, who gave the audience a high octane performance of her hit single, 'Can't Get You Out of My Head'.
Other memorable acts came from Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst who teamed up with guitar legend, Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) and Wes Scantlin of upcoming new metal band, Puddle of Mud' to perform the Led Zeppelin classic, 'Thank You' and Dido, winner of the award for Best New Act wowed the audience with her latest hit, 'Hunter'.
The show also featured fantastic live performances from across the music spectrum and included stunning sets from Jay-Z, Basement Jaxx, Craig David, Mary J Blige, Rammstein, Travis, REM, Depeche Mode and Blink 182.
Being the hottest party in town, naturally a host of international superstars flocked to Frankfurt to take part in the show. Guest presenters included Spanish film director Pedro Almodovar, Boris Becker, Alicia Keys, Pink, Heidi Klum, Shaggy, Ben Stiller, Gavin Rossdale from Bush, top DJ Roger Sanchez, Nelly Furtardo, Christina Ricci and Eddy Grant.
Winners of the 2001 MTV Europe Music Awards were: Robbie Williams Best Male; Jennifer Lopez Best Female; Anastacia Best Pop; Limp Bizkit Best Group, Best Album and The Web Award; Dido Best New Act; 'Clint Eastwood' from Gorillaz Best Song; Gorillaz Best Dance; Eminem Best Hip Hop; Avalanches 'Since I Left You' video Best Video and Blink 182 Best Rock.
