- Story Text: Kylie Minogue - winner in London on Wednesday (February 20) of the Brit Award for Best International Female Solo Artist - is now out to conquer the USA. Her album 'Fever' is released there on February 26. The petite Australian is hoping her runaway success in the United Kingdom can now be mirrored in the USA.
Pop superstar Kylie Minogue is poised to take on the US. Her single 'Can't Get You Out of My Head' is currently sitting at number 20 on the US Billboard top 100 charts. The single is her biggest selling ever and was still in the UK top 20 during the first week of 2002 - some four months after its release last September, it was also the 4th best selling single of 2001 in Britain and her album 'Fever' was the 10th best selling album. 'Fever' has already sold two million copies and 'Can't Get You Out of My Head ' went to number one in seventeen countries.
But while the petite Australian reaches unprecedented levels of popularity and success in the UK, success in the US has continued to evade her. Now, massive interest in the single 'Can't Get You Out of My Head' has prompted her to cross the Atlantic to attempt to conquer the fickle and incredibly competitive American market. Minogue says that despite success around the world, recognition in the US would be welcome.
"Some days I have no idea why I'm doing this. I feel with this album, it's the most cohesive project I've done, musically, visually, the amount of Kylie ...that it seems to work," Minogue said.
Kylie first gained fame when she starred in the hit Australian TV series, 'Neighbours'. She her first worldwide smash in 1987 with 'Loco-motion'. Since then she has released eight albums, a greatest hits and live album, appeared in numerous films (most recently as the green fairy in 'Moulin Rouge'). Minogue says she increasingly feels a pull towards acting , " I have had a growing desire in past couple of years to get back into acting and have also recovered from the really bad movies I did "says Minogue.
She has also collaborated with some of the world's top artists including the Pet Shop Boys and Robbie Williams. Kylie has also completed a number of sold out world tours and closed the Sydney 200 Olympics. Minogue says that during her prolific career she has learned much about the industry and the intrusion on her private life, "sometimes it is definitely too much but for the most part, it's just what I do. I think no matter what you do... there will be good and bad."
'Fever' will be released into the United States on February 26.
