- Story Text: DRIVING THE NEWLY-INTRODUCED MERLYN FORMULA CAR RODNEY SEOW, SINGAPORE'S TOP DRIVER, BLAZED HIS WAY TO VICTORY IN THE ISLAND'S GRAND PRIX CAR EVENT ON MONDAY.
SEOW LED PRACTICALLY FROM START TO FINISH, CLOCKING A TIME OF 2 HOURS, 24 MINUTES AND 43.8 SECONDS OVER THE 60 LAP CIRCUIT.
HIS CAR WAS POWERED BY A 1,594 C.C. ENGINE. FOR SEOW IT WAS THE SECOND VICTORY IN TWO DAYS. ON SUNDAY HE WON THE 15-LAP RACE, BEATING LAST YEAR'S GRAND PRIX WINNER, LEE HANG SENG.
IN THE FIRST NINE LAPS OF MONDAY'S RACE IT WAS A BATTLE BETWEEN SEOW, LEE HANG SENG AND ALBERT POON OF HONG KONG, WHO WAS THE WINNER IN 1965.
FILIPINO MILLIONAIRE ARSENIO LAUREL CAME THIRD IN MONDAY'S RACE. IT WAS HIS FIRST ATTEMPT IN THE SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX.
