- Story Text: After four days in Ghana, President Tito of Yugoslavia drove to the Togo Republic for a three-day visit. He was met Mar 4 at the Togo-Ghana border by the Togo Prime Minister, Sylvanua Olympio.
President Tito inspected a detachment of the Togo militia, and then drove off to the Presidential Palace at Lome, the country's capital, two miles inside the border with Ghana. The following day, he laid a wreath on the war memorial, and attended a rally at the Lome Stadium. Both the Prime Minister and President Tito were accompanied by their wives.
They watched displays by troops, school-children, voluntary organisations, Togo women and footballers. A highlight of the visit was a State dinner in the Hotel Le Benin in Lome.
Togoland became independent in 1960; and according to latest estimates has a population of Nearly 2,000,000 Africans and 1,277 Europeans.
