- Story Text: The Proclaimers have recently released their fifth album entitled The Best of The Proclaimers, which is a compilation of their most famous songs along with three new tracks, recorded in February and produced by Edwin Collins.
The Scottish twins met up with Reuters in London to discuss the perhaps overdue release of their fifth album.
The compilation album, which includes hit songs such as "Letter from America", "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" and "I'm On My Way", was put on the back burner - against the will of Chrysalis Records who used to manage the pop duo - until the twins had released their fourth record. The Reid brothers felt they didn't have enough material of a high enough standard to compile a Best Of album, and wanted to show respect for their fans by waiting: "There's more material to choose from on the fourth album, we've got three new tracks on it which are completely new to this record so you know, I think the public's been... we're not treating them with contempt, we're treating them with respect by waiting until there's enough of the standard that you'd want to put the record out" said Guitarist and Vocalist, Charlie Reid The Proclaimers' music career has spanned 15 years and in that time they have appeared many times on TV - their first and most important appearance being on The Tube 15 years ago, which is what they believe started the ball rolling. They have also been lucky enough to have a couple of their tracks used on film soundtracks including "Get Ready" on the Dumb & Dumber soundtrack, and "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" as the theme song to the film Benny & Joon. Their music has also been featured on numerous adverts and television programmes ranging from for a South Korean mobile phone company advert to the American comedy series The Simpsons.
The two brothers put their music career to one side when their father became critically ill but started up again in August 1997 after his death, and a few years later after Chrysalis' closure they decided to start their own production company 'Persevere' with their manager Kenny MacDonald.
