- Story Text: A four-person abseiling team has claimed an Asian record, after successfully abseiling down a 60-storey hotel in Thailand.
-------------------------------------------------------------------- Three men and a woman made their way carefully down the 195-metre-high building on Wednesday (February 26) to claim their place in the record books.
The abseilers belong to an outdoor adventure club on the island of Phuket. They took just seven minutes to reach the tenth floor of the new Westin Banyan Tree Hotel in Bangkok. They then turned to perform the "Commander Crawl" along horizonal ropes to a neighbouring building.
The stunt was performed to mark the opening of the hotel and the 50th anniversary of its owners, the Thai Wah group.
Authorities have yet to confirm their feat as a new Asian record.
The current world record for abseiling is 444 metres, set in Canada by the British royal Marines. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
