- Story Text: An ex-Soviet kick-boxing coach from Georgia bid to set a new world record on Wednesday (December 14), using his recently-acquired talent, the ability to attract metal to his body.
Etibar Elchyev, 39, discovered his talent of attracting metal things to his body slightly less then a year ago, but today he looked determined to win the title of Guinness Record holder.
The Georgian Guinness Book of Records Commission announced Elchyev wanted to break the record for "the most spoons balanced on the face" by holding 27 spoons on his body, but the athlete's assistant managed to balance 50 metal spoons around his neck and chest.
As the goal was successfully achieved, a happy Elchyev decided to make his show even more exciting and surprised the commission and small audience by holding a 92 kilogram man seated on 14 kilogram car bonnet by his chest for almost 27 seconds.
"I am pleased with today's results, but I am not in a hurry to lay all my cards on the table immediately, as soon as you do it, everything is over. No, now I have a chance ahead of me. As you have seen I announced I would balance only 27 spoons but showed I could do 50 instead. So, next time I might show not 150, but even more. My goal is to set a world record which no one else can break," said the Guinness record challenger after a successful performance.
Gia Sulakvelidze, a member of commission and head of the alternative medicine department at the Tbilisi Cardiology Clinic in Georgia said he had more "medical" interests in Elchyev, as he was working on using human energy for treatment of several diseases.
"This phenomena is not rare, even if you have a look in the Internet you would see a lot of similar things. There was one record of balancing 17 spoons on the face by a little boy (Aaron) Caissie and a few others. They are called 'magnet people'. But my personal interest in him is based on the medical side of it. I mean, not the record for the record's sake, but the development of this young man properly (for treatment purposes) and the possibility of directing his energy correctly. This is my main goal and mission, and that is why I agreed to be a part of this commission," Sulakvelidze told media after the record was officially registered by the commission.
Meanwhile, the record challenger will have to wait for the conformation of the results from the International Commission of The Guinness Book of Records.
