- Story Text: Police in the ex-Soviet republic of Georgia have found two metal containers stuffed with radioactive substances inside a car.
The containers with radioactive substances believed to be strontium and cezium were discovered inside the trunk of a taxi at the end of May.
Police believe the material was destined to be sold and possibly used to make a dirty bomb.
Two radioactive containers were found inside a car that was parked near a railway station.
The owner of the car told police that the containers were given to him by unidentified people who asked him to pass them on to someone who would approach the car near the station.
"We are investigating the situation. At the moment we know that the aim was to take it abroad and sell," Givi Mgembrishvili, an Interior Ministry official told a newsconference on Monday (June 16). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
