- Summary: 300 ft SOF - Interview with Mr. D. Bennett, managing director of the International Synthetic Rubber Co. Ltd., Southampton. 500 ft mute. Roll 1. GVs of ISR Co plant; tilt down pipe carrying liquid chemical into vat (of soap solution used a 'vehicle' for the chemicals); sacks of potassium sulphate being opened and emptied through a grating into a vat below; small amounts of liquid chemical being mixed to make different grades of synthetic rubber; GV of mixing room; CUs bags of powder chemicals. Roll 2. A complex of pipes; GV reactor room where the two basic chemicals (styrene and butadine) are mixed; SVs and CUs fireman making air test for explosive gases; GV reactor room - men doing maintenance work; CU pressure gauge; GV the six reactors; GV reactor building; PAN along pipes leading from reactors into the building where the liquid mix becomes solid synthetic rubber. Roll 3. Basic synthetic rubber - looking like brown breadcrumbs; CUs as it swirls around in a vat; CUs as raw product is shaken onto belt and under rollers pressing and warming the synthetic in start of drying process; wide angle shot from vat to rollers; CU of shoots coming from under rollers; GV of ovens in which drying is completed and the synthetic pressed into 80-pound blocks; CU blocks shot onto conveyor belt. Roll 4. CUs of 80-lb blocks; CU of worker cutting off samples for lab tests; samples laid out on table; blocks coming off conveyor and being loaded into containers fork-lift trucks putting laden containers on scales and finally taking them away for stacking. Roll 5. A 15-ton lorry loading with synthetic rubber (worth GBP3,000) and moving off; tankers (name Bulwark on side) bringing some of the liquid chemical used into the plant - this should be out into the opening sequences in conjunction with the CUs GVs and PANs of pipes running along roadside bringing most of chemical used from nearby oil refinery; establishing shots; general activity. FYI: The rolls have been printed in this order - 4, 2, 3, 5, 1. The International Synthetic Rubber Co. Ltd. is owned by major companies including Dunlop, etc. No shots of finished products such as tyres, piping, etc. - the raw synthetic rubber is produced at Southampton, then transported to factories in the Midland where the tyres, etc are made.
