- Story Text: Fighting continued on Monday (October 9) between Bosnian Serb Army (BSA) and Bosnian government troops on the frontline near the town of Kljuc in central Bosnia.
"The whole area is very active...lots of roads have been closed. We assume it's to ferry down the wounded," a western military monitor said.
United Nations (U.N.) military monitors in Bihac in the northwest of the country told Reuters battles were raging around the towns of Mrkonjic Grad, Kljuc and Bosanska Krupa, as a midnight deadline loomed for a United States-brokered ceasefire to take effect.
Bosnian government and Croat forces have gained up to 1,500 square miles (4,000 square km) of territoriy in the region in last month's rapid offensive.
Western military observers and reporters said there had been no respite in fighting in the area in the past few days.
A military source said the Bosnian government's 7th Corps had taken over some areas previously controlled by Bosnia's elite 5th Corps.
They said the 5th Corps had redeployed to build up defences around the town of Kljuc and expand towards the Serb-held town of Sanski Most.
On Tuesday, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) official Kris Janowski reported that about 650 Moslems had been forced out of Sanski Most, and that thousands more could follow.
He said about just over 3,000 Moslems had already been expelled from the Serb-held towns of Banja Luka and Prijedor and surrounding areas in recent days.
