- Story Text: INTRO: Thousands of Serbian opposition supporters have again walked through the main street of Belgrade as part of their anti-government protests.
The opposition has planned a huge street party to bring in the New Year, with a cacophony of bells, it says will be tolling for the Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic.
Opposition supporters in Serbia on Monday (December 30) held a rally at Republic Square in Belgrade then walked through the city as riot police packed adjacent streets to prevent them swarming into traffic zones.
The protests are the most sustained popular push for democratisation in 50 years of communist, one-party rule in Serbian-led Yugoslavia.
Serbian police banned street marches after a riot on December 24 involving opposition 'Zajedno' organisation protesters and government loyalists bussed into Belgrade from the provinces to champion the beleaguered president.
