- Story Text: INTRO: - The first shipment of arms destined for Bosnian federation army are on their way to Sarajevo after the Bosnian government comply with a United States (U.S.) demand for the dismissal of the Deputy Defence Minister.
The arms left the Croatian port of Ploce on Thursday (November 28) for the Bosnian army storage site at Hadzici near Sarajevo.
It is the first shipment from the U.S. government under the U.S.-sponsored Train and Equip Programme since the arms embargo on Bosnia was lifted earlier this year.
The delivery of the arms has been tied up with the fate of Bosnian Deputy Defence Minister Hasan Cengic. On November 1 the United States publicly called for Cengic's dismissal as a condition for delivering the 100 USDmillion worth of military equipment to Sarajevo. Cengic, a Moslem, had alleged ties with Iran. Kresimir Zubak, president of Bosnia's Moslem-Croat Federation, agreed to replace his deputy defence minister on Tuesday (November 19), clearing the way for theshipment.
A United States (U.S.) State Department official said Zubak had told Washington that he would sign an official order replacing Deputy Minister Hasan Cengic as of Wednesday.
The U.S. transport ship 'Condor' had been idling in the Adriatic Ocean for weeks, laden with tanks, helicopters, assault rifles, machine-guns, ammunition, tactical radios and other military equipment.
On Wednesday it was seen making its way into Ploce harbour, in Croatia.
