- Story Text: Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) leader Yasser Arafat arrived in Egypt on Saturday (September 17) for a meeting of the Palestinian development agency PECDAR, before heading to Alexandria for private talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
Arafat said on Saturday PECDAR would discuss the outcome of his meeting this week in Oslo with Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and of a donors meeting in Paris on September 9.
The Paris meeting, designed to persuade donors to pay out some of the 2.5 billion United States dollars (USD) pledged in aid, broke up when Israel objected to the Palestinian Authority including projects in the disputed holy city of Jerusalem in its aid requests.
PECDAR head Ahmad Korei was meant to chair the Cairo meeting but he is reported to be at odds with Arafat over the management of Palestinian institutions.
