- Story Text: Hollywood film star Robert DeNiro has described his recent arrest by French police as an "awful experience", and accused the judge who ordered him to be detained of carrying out a "witchhunt." De Niro was speaking to reporters on Saturday (February 20) at the premiere of his latest film "Wag the Dog" at the Berlin Film Festival.
De Niro discussed the incident in Paris on February 10th, when he was seized by "seven or eight" French police who burst into his hotel room and arrested him for allegedly being involved in a prostitution ring aimed at wealthy Middle East clients.
De Niro explained that even the police, who interrogated him for nine hours, were embarrassed by their own behaviour, and he was later released without any charges.
The film, finished months before the Clinton scandal broke, tells the story of a U.S.president, days before an election, facing accusations that he had sex with a teenage girl.
