- Story Text: France and the small west African nation of Togo have signed a new series of agreements and conventions of co-operation.
The French Minister of Co-operation, Mr. Jean De Liplowski, and the Foreign Minister of Togo, M. Ayi Houenou Hunlede, signed the three conventions and seven agreements in Lome on Tuesday (23 March).
The conventions cover the fixing of rules of co-operation in the diplomatic and consular fields, promotion of legal jurisdiction between the two countries and the free circulation in both countries of the people of each country.
Subjects covered in the agreements include momentary and financial co-operation, co-operation in the cultural fields including radio, television and the cinema, and joint ventures n scientific and technical research. They also cover maritime affairs, excluding fishing agreements. There was also an agreement on military co-operation between the two countries and for France to train staff for the Togolese army and give military aid to Togo.
Togo is a former French colony which was given independence in 1960.
SYNOPSIS: The French Minister for Co-operation, M. Jean De Liplowski, and the Togolese Foreign Minister, M. Ayi Houenou Hulede signed a series of conventions and agreements of co-operation between the two countries in Lome, the capital of Togo on Tuesday.
The three conventions cover a wide range of subjects, including the establishing rules in the diplomatic and consular relations between the two countries and promotion of mutual help in legal fields.
They also allow for free movement of French and Togolese citizens between the two countries. The agreements also cover such fields as culture, economic and financial considerations, co-operation in the information field, marine affairs, excluding fishing, French help in training Togolese army staff and French military aid to Togo.
