If we succeed in getting one point from the game tomorrow this will be very important for the next stage, especially since our group is competitive." 5. - Story Text: Olympiakos and Monaco look forward to Champions
League match.
Olympiakos and Monaco were preparing on Tuesday
(November 2) for their group A Champions League match in
Athens on Wednesday.
Both teams head into the match with no injury worries
and the same determination to progress in the championship
following a lively first encounter where Monaco came out on
top with a 2-1 win.
Olympiakos, on a psychological high after winning their
last national league game against PAOK with an impressive
score, are confident they can beat the French league team
at home.
Olympiakos coach Dusan Bayevic blamed carelessness at
Monaco when his team conceded two goals in the first ten
minutes, scored by Argentine striker Javier Saviola and
Uruguayan Ernesto Chevanton .
Bayevic admitted that Monaco, beaten by Porto in last
year's final, were a strong and dangerous opponent but
Olympiakos had the home adavantage.
Olympiakos have won their two previous home games
against French teams in the Champions League, beating
Olympique Lyon in 2000-01 and Lille the following season,
both by a 2-1 scoreline.
Monaco have drawn on all four previous visits to
Greece, three times with AEK Athens and once with
Olympiakos. They have not won any of their last six
Champions League away games.
Didier Deschamps' Monaco side lead the group with six
points from three games after Liverpool were held to a
goalless draw by Deportivo Coruna at Anfield. Both
Liverpool and Olympiakos are on four points.
