- Story Text: One French SFOR soldier has died and six were injured
when their military vehicle left the road during a routine
operation in southeast Bosnia, the NATO-led peacekeeping
force said.
The incident occurred at 1145 GMT on Thursday
(September 14) between the southeast Bosnian towns of
Nevesinje and Gacko, a spokesman for the NATO-led
Stabilisation Force (SFOR) said.
French SFOR Lieutenant Emmanuel Dous told Reuters on
Friday (September 15) that the vehicle left the road and
plunged about 80 metres.
A spokesman for SFOR's Multinational Division South-East
told Reuters the seriously injured soldier was flown to a
hospital in Paris immediately after the incident, and an
investigation to determine the cause of the incident was under
way.
Some 20,000 SFOR troops from 40 countries are helping to
secure peace in Bosnia following the 1992-1995 war between its
Muslim, Croat and Serb ethnic groups.
