- Story Text: People gather at the site of one of the bomb attacks
in Sharm El-Sheikh to light candles in memory of the
victims of the blast.
Hundreds of people ignored the bomb-scares and
sombre atmosphere in Sharm el-Sheikh on Sunday (July 24, 2005)
afternoon to join a loud peace demonstration in the streets
of the tourist resort.
Local Egyptians were joined by both foreigners who work
in the area as well as tourists whose holidays have been
shadowed by Saturday's (July 21) bomb blasts that killed 88
and wounded 200.
The demonstrators waved banners with peace slogans and
chanted as they walked past the blast sites.
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said on Saturday the
attacks, targeting a showpiece of Egypt's tourism industry,
would only serve to stiffen his resolve to combat
militants.
In the evening on Sunday Egyptians and foreign tourists
gathered at the site of one of the bomb blast and lit
candles in memory of the victims of the atrocity.
