- Story Text: The 75th Geneva International Motor Show opens, the
place where luxury cars continue to inspire dreams.
Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo unveiled
the Ferrari F430 Spider at the 75th Geneva International
Motor Show on Tuesday (March 1). This model joins
Ferrari's range of V8/engined sports cars.
The new drop-top includes a number of technical
features starting with the innovative electronic
differential, improving traction and roadholding under all
conditions. It also features the steering wheel-mounted
commutator switch allowing the cars set-up to be adjusted
easily and quickly.
The F430 Spider is designed by Pininfarina and its
lines were fine-tuned using state-of-the-art computer
aerodynamics simulation programmes usually employed
exclusively by the F1 team. The engine is attractively set
below a glass cover. The F430 Spider is powered by
Ferrari's new 490hp, 4,308cc 90 degrees V8 which is capable
of pushing the car to a top speed of over 310 km/h and
covering the 0-100km/h sprint in just 4.1 seconds.
Geneva is not only celebrating the 75th anniversary of
its International Motor show but is also the ideal venue to
celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Pininfarina company.
Therefore the CEO Pininfarina Spa Andrea Pininfarina, the
CEO Pininfarina Extra Paolo Pininfarina and the Creative
Director Pininfarina Spa Ken Okuyama launched the Birdcage
75th model, an extreme sports prototype. This new creation
is based on the Maserati heritage, on its most advanced
mechanical technology, realized in collaboration with
Motorola. Pininfarinas true dream car is a synthesis of the
vision of the three companies i.e. exclusive design, sports
DNA and technological innovation.
Also at the show Bentley announced the birth of the
fastest four-door saloon in its history, the Continental
Flying Spur. Powered by a 6-litre twin-turbocharged
12-cylinder engine producing 557bhp, this 'Gentlemens Club
on Wheels' has a top speed of 305km/h and accelerates from
0 to 100 in 5 seconds. The exquisite interior of fine
leather and wood veneers has, of course, not missed out on
careful design. It is without doubt a further step forward
in the revitalisation of Bentley, which began in 1998 with
significant investment in Crewe, the company's design,
engineering and manufacturing headquarters.
Two years after the launch of the Phantom and its rapid
establishme
nt as the worldwide market-leading super-luxury
saloon, Rolls-Royce Chief Executive Ian Robertson presented
the Rolls-Royce Phantom extended wheelbase edition. This
new model provides additional interior space for the rear
passengers while maintaining previous features. The new
longer wheelbase Phantom is entirely hand-crafted in-house,
designed, engineered and hand-built by Rolls-Royce Motor
Cars at Goodwood, United Kingdom. Rolls-Royce anticipates
that the new extended wheelbase Phantom will sell in
relatively small numbers to discerning customers with a
specific need for such a spacious motor car. Middle East
and the Asia Pacific region customers have already shown
particular interest in this model therefore it will be
launched first in these two areas.
The Motor show will open to the public on Thursday, 3
March 2005.
