- Story Text: Sentencing of an American soldier, who has admitted
murdering an 11-year-old ethnic Albanian girl while on
peacekeeping duty in Kosovo, is expected on Tuesday.
A Weapons Squad leader of the 3rd battalion of the
504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, U.S. Staff Sergeant Frank
Ronghi has also pleaded guilty to indecent acts with a child.
Ronghi was arrested in Kosovo after the bruised and
lacerated body of Merite Shabiu was found in a woodland
outside the town of Vitina .
Ronghi pleaded guilty late on Friday to the sodomy and
premeditated murder of the ethnic Albanian girl.
On Tuesday, the parents of the murdered girl were expected
to testify before the panel of officers, as will relatives of
Ronghi and fellow soldiers.
The 36-year-old native of Niles, Ohio, could face a
maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of
parole. The hearing had been expected to sentence Ronghi on
Monday but was postponed until Tuesday.
