Russian President Vladimir Putin and released from prison.
President Putin pardoned convicted former U.S spy
Edmond Pope on Thursday (December 14).
Putin's decree, read out to Reuters by a Kremlin
spokesman, said Pope had been pardoned on health reasons and
because of the importance of U.S.-Russian relations. Pope, 54,
suffers from a rare form of cancer.
Pope's wife Cheri arrived at the Lefortovo jail on
Thursday morning in a U.S. diplomatic vehicle and was
immediately whisked inside the prison.
