Everywhere across the world it repeats itself, unfortunately. Unfortunately because there still are adults in this world who like to exploit children, either for a commercial reason or for their own pleasure; even worse, who will kidnap children in order to abuse them and even to kill them." 1.40 6. (SOUNDBITE) (English) INTERPOL REPRESENTATIVE ANDERS PERSSON SAYING "First of all I want to make everyone clear that the images which we all can see on the internet are really evidence of a serious crime. It is not just images, they are evidence material and they should be considered and treated as evidence material and it is very important that law enforcement shares this information between each other so organisations which are new in this field don't have to start from the beginning and investigate these pictures which have already been investigated by another country. So that's the reason we, at Interpol, are keeping the information about previous cases and we try to share our information experience with other countries, especially those who just developed and experienced the use of internet within their border." 2.53 9. - Story Text: Interpol has gathered some 85 specialists from all over
the world at the 20th meeting on Crimes against Children.
Interpol has urged nations to take every necessary measure to
prevent the use of children in prostitution and to prevent
child pornography in the internet.
With a series of recent raids across Europe netting
thousands of suspected pedophiles, specialists from all over
the world gathered on Tuesday (October 22, 2002) in Thun,
Switzerland at the 20th meeting of the Interpol Specialised
Group on Crimes against Children.
Some 85 people from 34 countries are participating at the
three-day meeting, aimed at combating child sexual abuse,
especially on the internet.
Interpol has gathered some 150,000 individual images of
child abuse from all over the world.
"All nations should take every necessary measure to
prevent the use of children in prostitution and to prevent
child pornography," said Alain Remue, the president of the
meeting.
"The images which we all can see in the internet are
really the evidence of a serious crime. It is not just images,
they are evidence material and they should be considered and
treated as evidence material," Interpol representative Anders
Persson said.
The fight against trafficking in human beings and child
pornography is one of the top priorities of the Interpol. As a
result a Specialised Group was created in 1992.
Many organisations including UNICEF, the World Tourism
Organisation, the World Customs Organisation and several other
Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) now have strong links with
the Specialised Group.
