- Story Text: Victoria Falls, a small village by any standard on the Rhodesian side the famous falls, discovered by David Livingstone in the late 80's, prior to which a missionary, possibly Portuguese is said to have sighted it...was not long ago a small village adjoining Livingstone, which is now in Zambia. In those days if you wanted anything you popped across the bridge and bought it in Livingstone. Now, all that has padded, and the river is a barrier between the black north and the white south, and the zambians don't like to have anything to do with the Rhodesians.....which leave Vic Falls a bit high and dry sometimes. However, the place is growing fast, and with it the cry that proposed new hotels will spoil the famous and magnificent waterfall, one of the finest views in the world..and the counter cry's that new hotels are knout to provide accommodation for the hundreds of thousands of visitors who flock to the Falls every year,,, on the Rhodesian side, much to the annoyance of the Zambians, who haven't a fraction to offer on their side compared to the Rhodesian side. Loud complainers are voice about the cost of the luxury hotels in VicFalls, around $10 - $12 a day for room only, but they are full up nevertheless. New hotels for the more moderate purse are demanded, and on hill overlooking a long stretch of the river is the Elephant peak hotel, and another one is on the way almost on the banks of the river. Near the big tree, a luxury hotel was planned, but on outcry stopped this, although from this point, the river cannot be seen from ground level..
The air Charter firms are also moaning about the govt airline flying round the falls before landing, so doing them out of passengers, but they still do pretty well......whilst the passenger boats on the river, keeping well to their side of the river take heavy loads of sightseers up the river, passing a Zambian launch also doing the same, but at obviously very low charges,, with no white customers on board, as against the Rhodesian boats, with no blacks aboard... Even the local Doctor in Vic Falls is leaving in November, and the village will be without any medical service, no doctors no hospital, no chemist, for a place that attracts avast number of people ??? year..... Shots include Vic Falls Hotel, Casino Hotel, two new hotels being built, Elephant ridge, and another, shots of the Falls, also aerials, the Falls bridge looking into Zambia, long shots of Zambians looking into Rhodesia. Shots from the river showing it unspilled, also elephants on the banks......Statue of Livingstone etc..
