- Story Text: United Nations representative for Kosovo Bernard
Kouchner has addressed a crowd of hundreds of ethnic Albanians
in the capital Pristina to lend his support to the wrongful
imprisonment of their compatriots by Serbs.
Kouchner, who attended the demonstration in Pristina
on Thursday (April 19), called upon the Serbs to free Albanian
women's rights activist Flora Brovina, who was arrested by
Serb forces one year ago.
Brovina's son, Uranik, said they were having trouble
dealing with the Serbian authorities, who should never have
detained his mother.
Kouchner said that there was no legitimate reason why
Brovina should have been arrested.
About 1,500 Kosovo Albanians are still jailed in Serbia
since they were arrested during NATO'S bombings last year.
On Thursday, about 500 demonstrators took to the streets
of the Kosovan capital to highlight the plight of those still
being held. They carried photos and banners as they marched in
silence.
