- Story Text: New explosions were heard near the northern Iraqi cities of Mosul and Kirkuk, about two hours after an initial wave of blasts.
A Reuters reporter in Kurdish-held northern Iraq, on high ground with a view to Kirkuk, an oil city some 30 km (20 miles) away in government-held territory, saw anti-aircraft fire over the city and heard several big explosions.
Kirkuk, a key oil hub, is about 250 km (155 mile) north of Baghdad.
Other reporters near Kirkuk and the nearby city of Mosul earlier reported a series of explosions, accompanied by anti-aircraft fire.
A reporter for the Arabic-language Al Jazeera television station in Mosul said he heard explosions in the city, where security forces were in the streets, and said he had received reports of similar blasts in Kirkuk.
Mosul lies just outside the Kurdish-run zone and about 100 km (60 miles) south of the Turkish border. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
