- Story Text: Chilean soccer player Marcelo Salas has returned to Argentina's River Plate after leaving Italy's Juventus.
"I always said I would have never left River, and if I left it is because there were other circumstances at that time. At that time, I went to Lazio but I always wanted to come back. Now, I had the opportunity and, besides, there is also the matter of family and this allows me to be near Chile.
I wanted very much to return to Argentina and what better than River Plate", said Salas in a news conference on Monday (July 21) in Buenos aires.
The 28-year-old striker, who started training Monday, was introduced along with Fernando Crosa, Daniel Montenegro and Killian Virviescas.
Salas enjoyed a successful first stint at the Argentine club, scoring 24 goals in 53 games and playing in a team which won several trophies between 1996 and 1997. He is joint top scorer for Chile, netting 34 times, the same number as Ivan Zamorano.
Salas' goals with River served as a springboard for a move to Italy, where Salas played for Juventus in Turin and Lazio in Rome. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
