- Story Text: Pakistani stuntman, Sultan Golden, has failed again in his attempt to jump a distance of six cars with his stunt vehicle, this time in the reverse direction.
Sultan Golden of Pakistan is at it again.
After a dramatic failure last month to jump seven cars in his 1983 Toyota hotrod, he has now tried to jump six cars, backwards.
Thousands gathered in a stadium in Lahore last week hoping for a glimpse of what Sultan declared would be a world record.
"Sultan Golden needs support, he can make us get world recognition if he succeeds", said one fan.
Sultan's plans called for a six car reverse jump, but a last minute failure by local officials to provide cars spelled trouble.
Still hoping to carry out a record breaking jump, Sultan urged spectators to contribute their own cars to the stunt.
As the sun set he made a desperate appeal to car owners, and a final prayer for success.
But as darkness fell only three spectators had the guts to entrust their vehicles to the bearded stuntman's team of stunt experts.
And with only three cars Golden was forced to leave a space of three cars between the vehicles and the ramp to prove his point that six were possible.
And lucky for the car owners he did.
With all eyes on the reversing car, Sultan Golden sailed over three cars but failed to reach the landing ramp.
With a dramatic thud his Toyota bounced into the landing ramp smashing its frail wooden structure to pieces.
Once again Golden suffered only minor injuries, despite a near complete lack of safety equipment and roll bars.
Despite the failure, Sultan was defiant.
"I have earlier made a 5-car reverse jump. Guinness Book of Records said it was impossible. Today initially I had my car numbers reduced, you see I lack resources. Were there another car today, I would have made another bid for jump,"
said Goldem.
Golden said he had already completed a successful reverse five car jump in Faisalabad in 1995.
Golden has been performing stunts with motorcycles and cars since 1985, hoping to gain fame and fortune via his performances.
Golden says he is determined to perform a reverse car jump again to register his name in Guinness Book of World Records.
He also plans to take his show international by performing stunts in Dubai and Britain. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
