- Story Text: A parade of artificial cows is taking place in Geneva and should last all summer.
The city of Geneva has welcomed some new residents for the summer, artificial cows.
Around 70 artificial white cows were bought by various Swiss companies, for 8000 Swiss Francs each and then local independent artists were appointed to decorate them in a unique way.
The artists chose a specific theme for their cows and turned them into pieces of contemporary art.
"We are in Switzerland, watch making is traditionally Swiss, the cow also represents Switzerland. The cuckoo clock represents very well a caricature of the spirit of Swiss watchmakers. I made this mixture in a humorous spirit," said appointed artist Yubero Aquiles, as he explained the inspiration for his red and white cow with a cuckoo clock inside its belly.
The cows have been a hit with both residents and tourists around Geneva, happy to celebrate their place in Swiss tradition.
"Cows are a Swiss icon, a symbol for the economy, the culture and the tradition of highlanders, especially in the Valais. It's a symbol that needs to be protected nowadays,"
said resident Lazaro Pary.
"It's beautiful, very nice, it's very representative of Switzerland," added tourist Lavga Jagardorj.
The cows will be parading at different spots in the city of Geneva until the end of September, when they will be auctioned at the Geneva Fair.
All the benefits will be donated to a children's charity. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
