Summary:June 13 1944 - the first of Hitler's vaunted secret terror weapons was unleashed on London. This was the V-1, a flying bomb. These weapons were launched from sites on the French coast. Their jet engines were programmed to cut out over London and then crash - exploding on impact. At first, anti-aircraft defences proved useless against them. Flying bombs did severe damage and killed hundreds of civilians.
