- Story Text: An exhibition detailing the life and work of film director Stanley Kubrick has opened in Frankfurt.
The exhibition, opened on Tuesday (March 30) by Kubrick's wife Christiane and his long-standing executive producer Jan Harlan, is being shown with the co-operation of the German Architecture Museum and the German Film Museum. For the first time, costumes, props, technical material, photographs, film and a yet uncharted number of written documents from films such as "A Clockwork Orange", "2001 - A Space Odyssey", "The Shining" and his last film "Eyes Wide Shut" will be on display for the public in 1200 square meters of exhibition space at the two museums. It is the first time such a large number of Kubrick's personal items will be displayed together.
Christiane Kubrick, on hand for the opening, said that her husband was unusually intense when he worked, preparing himself well for when the cameras started rolling.
"I think one can see that he prepared himself for his work unusually well and he liked doing that so that when the moment came that the actors stood before him and it all started he was completely free and there were no obstacles.
He didn't study and didn't have to force himself to do it, but rather he did it happily."
Also at the exhibit was Kubrick's long-time executive producer, Jan Harlan, who praised Kubrick as a "great representative of his art and his time."
"He was a great artist, without question a great representative of his generation in this relatively new area of making films - it has only existed for 100 years,"
Harlan said.
"I imagine in 50 or 100 years, when people are looking at our time, they will not only read the books but also watch the films fo our time. Kubrick will belong in that group, with Ingmar Bergmann, Edgar Reitz, Fellini, those are the people who will represent us and his generation in this art form."
The exhibition in Frankfurt will close on July 4. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
