Here, Shao Khan, the treacherous ruler of the hellish dimension of Outworld has flaunted the laws of Mortal Kombat and has ripped an opening in the universe between Outworld and the realm of Earth.
He is determined to merge the two dimensions and claim the Earth as his own by sending his Extermination Squads to conquer and subjugate humanity.
Shao Khan's Army of Darkness is led by a fearsome assortment of generals -- Sindel, once a beautiful queen but now a vision of living death; Sheeva, a towering, four-armed female fighting machine; Motaro, a monster Centaur and Ermac, the mysterious red Ninja and master of telekinetic powers.
Earth's only hopes lie with a handful of fighters -- Rayden, the Thunder God, an immortal who takes side with the himans; Liu Kang (Robin Shou), the warrior champion who triumphed in the first round of Mortal Kombat; Kitana (Talisa Soto), the beautiful 10,000-year-old princess from another dimension; Sonya Blade, earth's fiercest female fighter and Johhny Blade, former actor who has discovered true courage through his battles in the Outworld.
When Reuters visited the set, They are joined in their challenge by Jax, Sonya Blade's law enforecment partner who has robotically enhanced his fighting powers.
The challenge is stopping the evil Kahn and his amry from consuming the earth in less than six days.
The confrontation pits them against an assortment of deadly fighters, terrifying creatures and malignant sorcery. Their goal is to reach the mystical Temple of the Elder Gods where they hope to learn how to stop Shao Khan's unearthly forces.
