- Story Text: Saturday (June 25) marks the two year anniversary of the drug-induced death of Michael Jackson. But despite the passing time, little progress has been made in the case of his accused doctor, Conrad Murray, who still awaits his manslaughter trial.
Two years ago, in early 2009, Michael Jackson was preparing his comeback. The plan: a 50 show residency at London's O2 Arena. The announcement was met with overwhelming excitement, as tickets sold out instantly, but also trepidation - many worried Jackson's health was too poor for such a demanding schedule.
The latter may have proved correct. On June 25, 2009, an ambulance was called to Jackson's Los Angeles mansion and transported him to the hospital where he was declared dead.
Autopsy results revealed that Jackson died from an overdose of the powerful sedative, Propofol, administered to him by Murray. Murray has plead not guilty in the case, but his trail has been postponed until September.
Jackson's sister, La Toya, said she feels her there were more players involved in her brother's death than just Murray.
"My biggest suspicion about it is that my brother, as I said from day one, he was murdered. And that eventually, of course, it came out that way, but I truly believe, and I will always say this, that Dr. Murray was simply the fall guy."
But La Toya refrained from saying who exactly she feels is to blame, other than, "Maybe we'll find out later."
After an elaborate memorial service in July 2009, Jackson was buried on September 03, 2009 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California. The service was attended by his family and close friends.
The family, including Janet and Jermaine, joined hundreds of fans at Forest Lawn in June of last year to mark the one year anniversary of his death.
"Michael is loved around the world because he's God's gift to the world. God gave him to the world and God took him back," said Jermaine.
Jackson's estate has earned hundreds of millions of dollars since his death - proof of the singer's enduring popularity. His 2010 album, "Michael" sold roughly half a million copies and there is currently a Jackson-based Cirque du Soleil show that will travel around North America this fall. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
