- Story Text: - R&B singer Rihanna, victim of physical abuse by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown, talks to Reuters about the impact the incident has had on her music and about one day finding true love again.
The singer's new fourth original studio album "Rated R" hits stores on November 23rd.
Her new single 'Russian Roulette" includes the powerful lyrics, "I'm terrified but I'm not leaving / I know that I must pass this test" and "It's too late to pick up the value of my life"
Just how much can fans read into the song's lyrics? Says Rihanna, ""Its about being, for me, it was about being in a relationship and being afraid of getting hurt in the end which is kind of the same feeling you go through playing the game of Russian Roulette. You know somebody could get hurt in the end and you are just terrified its going to be you, so when I said I am terrified but I am not leaving it means I am scared I am going to get hurt, but I am in love, so I am not going to leave."
The singer just opened up for the first time about the incident in an interview with Diane Sawyer.
Following the interview, calls to the U.S. National Domestic Helpline went up over 50 per cent.
Many are calling it the Rihanna effect. So why did the singer agree to open up the details of the night of the Chris Brown incident.
Says Rihanna, "I just wanted to tell my story so that people can get inspired by it in any way possible, and also that people can move on from that situation and my name, that was the last big thing people heard of me and so kind of tagged along so I just wanted to get that out of the way so that I can move on with my music and have a clear path and a clear vision of exactly what I want to do which is music."
Rihanna has acknowledged police reports that Brown bit her, put her in a head lock until she had trouble breathing, and punched her several times in the eye.
So is the young singer looking to fall in love again Says Rihanna, "I hope so, I don't like to judge people off a stereotype and say that men are horrible, because they are not. They are individuals. There are horrible men and horrible women, but they are all individuals and I do believe that good men exist and real love exists and hopefully I find it one day."
Rihanna is teaming up with Nokia for a show that will be live on cell phones and lucky fans could win tickets to the show in London. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
