At Luneburg on May 4, 1945, Britain's Field Marshall Montgomery received the unconditional surrender of German forces in Holland, Denmark and northwest Germany. Three days later the formal surrender of all German forces was signed at Allied headquarters in northern France.. The round up of military leaders followed. Admiral Doenitz captured at Flensburg, Field Marshall von Runsted at Goppingen.
