- Story Text: The 22nd Toronto International Film Festival wound down on Saturday (September 13) with the world premiere of Brad Pitt's latest film "Seven Years in Tibet." Other films taking a bow during the last half of the 10 day festival were director Wayne Wang's "Chinese Box," starring Jeremy Irons, and the American comedy "In and Out," starring Kevin Kline and Tom Selleck.
Wang, Irons and co-star Reuben Blades attended the Gala screening of "Chinese Box" on Tuesday, September 9.
The film tells the story of four people whose lives are intertwined during the six months leading up to the British handover of Hong Kong to mainland China.
Oddly, "Chinese Box" has no distributor yet either in North America or Britain - one of Director Wang's reasons for screening at Toronto.
"The Toronto festival has become a very good festival for launching films for North America so a lot of people from North America are coming here," he said.
On Wednesday, September 10, Kevin Kline, Tom Selleck and Joan Cusack were among the celebrities attending the World Premiere of "In and Out," a comedy about a teacher in a small midwestern U.S.
town who is "outed" as gay by a former student.
The catch is the student makes his statement during an internationally-telecast acceptance speech at the Academy Awards.
The film opens in the United States September 19.
Pitt's much-awaited film, "Seven Years in Tibet" closed the festival on Saturday. Directed by French filmmaker Jean Jacques Annaud, it details the heroic journey of Austrian mountain climber Heinrich Harrer and his friendship with the young Dali Lama. The film also stars actor David Thewlis. It opens in the United States on October 8th. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
