- Story Text: Alicia Silverstone has hung up her Batgirl cape to play a confused teenager looking for love and acceptance from her wealthy father in the new comedy/drama "Excess Baggage." For the first time, the star of "Clueless" also acted as a producer for the film.
"Excess Baggage" celebrated its World Premiere in Los Angeles on Monday (August 25).
Silverstone plays Emily Hope, a brazen teenager who resorts to a series of dangerous stunts to gain her father's attention.
When none of them work, she takes the ultimate gamble -- faking her own kidnapping.
But the plan goes wrong when the car she is hiding in is stolen by professional car thief Vincent Roche, played by "The Usual Suspects" star Benicio Del Toro.
When Emily's plan and Vincent's crime spree collide, they become instant adversaries. But they come to rely on each other to survive when Emily's ominous "Uncle" Ray, played by Christopher Walken, comes after them.
Ray is an ex-CIA assassin employed by Emily's father to find out what's going on.
"Excess Baggage" is directed by Marco Brambilla, whose first feature film as a director was the Sylvester Stallone action film "Demolition Man." The film is the first to be released by First Kiss Productions, a company Silverstone formed in an effort to develop her own projects.
In a headline-grabbing development, Silverstone recently landed a 10 million US dollar, three-picture production deal with Columbia Pictures -- not bad for a 20-year old woman who started out acting in music videos.
Silverstone recently starred as Batgirl in the summer blockbuster "Batman and Robin." She starred in the films "The Crush," "The Babysitter" and "Hideaway," but her real fame came when as Beverly Hills teenager Cher in "Clueless." Benicio Del Toro came to audiences' attention with his role in "The Usual Suspects," for which he won an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor.
