- Story Text: AC Milan said ahead of their Champions League game against German vice champion Schalke 04 in Gelsenkirchen on Tuesday (September 27) that they want to "do better than last season in Istanbul."
Asked whether the criticism had died down following last seasons Champions League final loss to Liverpool in Turkey, where the Italian side had led 3-0 at half-time, Paolo Maldini told reporters that: "Of course that's still in our heads but we are trying to do our best and we will of course try to do better than last year in Istanbul."
"Everyone is doing what they can to achieve this goal. We want to do better than in Istanbul last season."
Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti said ahead of the Schalke game that "we definitely have a lot of respect for them."
"As far as I can tell the (Schalke) team is in a good condition and they have a good rhythm," Ancelotti said.
He is expected to put in place forwards Christian Vieri and Andrei Shevchenko and grant a break to up and coming Alberto Gilardino during Wednesday's game at Veltins Arena.
"After two consecutive wins, against Lazio and Treviso, Milan are back in European action, with a trip to Germany," Milan said in a written statement.
"Milan's last visit to Germany ended with wins over Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in the year of the Manchester triumph over Juve. Now, that is not a bad objective to repeat," the statement concludes. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
