- Story Text: Police arrested two men Tuesday (November 29) who were caught, literally, with their pants down, as they attempted to rob a bank.
The two men were arrested after authorities discovered them digging a tunnel leading directly to a Scotiabank vault. The police arrested two other men connected to the robbery attempt. The group's intention was to come up through the floor.
Unfortunately for the men, someone found the entrance hole to the tunnel suspicious and called the police. The hole was on a busy street across from the bank.
"One end of the tunnel ends where the vault of the Scotiabank is and the other one practically takes you to the business centre," explained Wilfredo Avelardo, a San Salvador policeman at the scene.
The suspects told journalists they were acting on behalf of a mysterious third party.
"He told us where to dig," said one of the handcuffed, naked suspects.
The reason the men gave for being caught au naturel, was that they got hot digging their tunnel.
Police suspect that the four men belong to a larger group and are currently investigating leads that may lead to additional arrests. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
