Summary:When American forces began to return home after the war in Europe ended in 1945, many of them travelled in style, aboard the two greatest and formerly the most luxurious ocean liners in the world, the Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mary. These two Queens of the Ocean had been stripped down to essentials to work as troopships on the dangerous Atlantic crossing throughout the war and now, for thousands of G.I.'s they provided a free ride home.
