- Story Text: Film and music memorabilia from pop and Hollywood royalty is set to go under the hammer at Christie's salesroom in London.
Outfits, instruments and film props dating back several decades comprise the 144 lots up for grabs in Christie's 'Pop Culture - Lasting Legacies' sale.
Estimates for the items range from 800 to 150,000 ($1,400-225,000).
A key piece is a rare page of lyrics written by former Beatle John Lennon, which is expected to fetch 100,000-150,000 ($170,000-255,000) at auction.
"We're really honoured to be able to have this for sale, it's in John Lennon's hand, and it's from 'Being For The Benefit of Mr Kite', from the 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club' album, and it's really interesting when you look at it because you look at the title and there's even a spelling mistake in there so I think it really adds something to it," said Nicolette Tomkinson, Director at Christie's.
Other highlights pieces include a drum kit used by former Oasis drummer Tony McCarroll, which is expected to fetch 12,000-15,000 ($20,400-25,500) and a lace empire line dress by Helen Rose, made for actress Grace Kelly when she played Princess Alexandra in the 1956 film 'The Swan'. The dress is expected to fetch 30,000-50,000 ($51,000-85,000).
According to Tomkinson, pop culture memorabilia generates among the most successful sales for Christie's.
"People love pop memorabilia because everyone's got an association with something in the sale, it's memories of them growing up, or things that they associated with that their parents have," she said.
The items will be sold on June 20 at Christie's South Kensington in London. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
