- Story Text: After all the hype in the rest of the world in the run up to and following the release of George Lucas' latest Star Wars movie, 'Star Wars - Episode 1', German fans have finally been able to see this much anticipated science fiction film one minute after midnight on Thursday (August 19).
The movie "Star Wars, Episode 1" came to German theatres considerably later than in the United States or Britain.Even so, Germans' appetite for the film so far has been moderate.
One of the reasons might be the less than favourable critiques as well as the late start in this country.
German movie theatre operators showing "Star Wars" are not very pleased either.
20th Century executives have put several restrictions on how "Episode 1" is shown: no more than fifty percent of tickets may be sold by telephone ahead of the showing, the tickets must cost more than other films and there is a minimum amount of showings per day in each individual theatre.
However, all this did not deter fans in Berlin early on Thursday morning: some even dressed up in costumes and the most original one was awarded a prize. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
