Summary:A devastating attack by Jewish guerrillas on the British government in Palestine came on July 22 1946, when a bomb ripped through the seven floors of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem. Besides being the biggest hotel in the city, it also served as the head- quarters of the British administration. The hotel was packed at the time and total casualties amounted to 116 killed and 46 wounded. Blame for the bombing was accepted by the Irgun Zvei Leumi organisation.
