- Story Text: More than 2,000 Myanmar factory workers protested on Saturday (December 19) in the Thailand-Myanmar border town of Mae Sot following a dispute between a security guard and two workers.
Thai police said the protest-strike started late on Friday (December 18) after a dispute broke out between a security guard of the factory and two Myanmar workers. The two workers were injured and one was sent to Myowaddi Hospital in Myanmar but the other is reported to be missing, the police said.
"My elder brother was beaten and he is now in the Myowaddi hospital while my brother's friend is still missing. I would like to ask the police to help find him," said Thead Macho, sister of the injured worker.
The protesters demanded demanded to see the other worker as rumours swirled that the worker had been killed. They said they would continue the strike until the factory made clear the missing worker was still alive.
More than 300 soldiers and police have been deployed to the factory to keep the situation under control. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
