- Story Text: Several hundred shoppers took the slogan "enter half naked. leave fully dressed" to heart when they responded to a Berlin fashion store's promotion on Thursday (June 16), showing up in nothing but their underwear.
Spanish label "Desigual" gave away free clothes to the first one hundred shoppers who seemed to enjoy themselves and even gave interviews to camera crews, wearing only a bikini.
One young woman who gave her name as Marlene and said she was a student thought "it's pretty funny, a great idea."
"I just like fashion," she said, laughing, adding "I'm not that rich. Usually I don't shop in places like this one so I'm pretty happy about the possibility of being able to pick something up here."
Julia, another shopper who was among the first one hundred to show up in time for a free wardrobe, said "their clothes are really great so I thought we should show up. Also, it's free. Normally, these clothes are pretty expensive."
According to a store employee, police asked the shop owners to open the doors thirty minutes prior to the scheduled 9 a.m. (0700 GMT) official start after large crowds had gathered on the sidewalk of the busy Kurfuerstendamm boulevard.
A saleswoman said similar promotions were planned for New York, Stockholm, London, Prague and Madrid. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
