- Story Text: Three Femen activists were arrested in the Ukraine capital on Tuesday (June 18) after staging a topless protest against the visit of Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko.
Among the activists arrested was Oleksandra Shevchenko, a Ukranian who arrived in Kiev on Wednesday (June 5) after being deported from Tunisia, where she had travelled to support her fellow activists.
Shevchenko, who was deported from Tunisia as soon as she arrived in the North African country, attempted to evade arrest on Tuesday as she waved a torch while running in the dark streets of Kiev.
When apprehended by police, the activist who had insults against Lukashenko written across her torso, screamed: "The last dictator in Europe, bastard Lukashenko."
Activists shouted 'Belarus lives' and shouted profanities directed at Lukashenko, as officers dragged them towards a police van.
Femen describes itself as "fighting patriarchy in its three manifestations - sexual exploitation of women, dictatorship and religion".
