- Story Text: Ex drug dealer Samson Sor Siriporn, who won the women's WBC (World Boxing Council) title early last year, signed a contract in Bangkok on Wednesday (March 26) for production company Women in Focus Productions to make a film about her life.
Siriporn was jailed for 10 years at the age of 17 for selling methamphetamine pills and took up boxing to pass the time in prison.
There she proved a talented pugilist and went on to win the WBC light-flyweight title last year in a fight against Japan's Ayaka Miyano at the notorious "Bangkok Hilton" prison.
Her victory secured her early parole and she walked out of prison last July three years early.
Reformed Siriporn never dreamed her life would be made into a screen drama.
"I feel so glad to sign the contract today. I never expected I would have today," she beamed, after signing the deal.
Niramol Sriyanond, founder of production company Women in Focus Productions, said Siriporn's life story would make a good film.
"If we happen to find a film which has the main female character as one in our country who committed a wrongful act, it will be a big support for teenagers and the next generation on how to seek a way out like she did," she said.
No financial details were disclosed, nor further information on when the film will be released.
Siriporn, the first prisoner to win a WBC title, currently serves as a WBC Ambassador of Goodwill. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
