- Story Text: Russian pop music lovers regretted on Friday (June 26) the death of a legendary pop star Michael Jackson.
Michael Jackson performed in Moscow twice, in September 1993 and September 1996. Russian fans expressed sadness over his death in Los Angeles on Thursday (June 25).
"It is sad, if there were more people like him it would have been jollier to live. It is sad," said Svetlana Krylova, a tourist from Siberia.
Jackson's dramatic, one-gloved stage presence and innovative dance moves were imitated by legions of fans around the world who mourned his death.
"He is unique, there will be no people like him, he has moved the culture as well as pop music forward. I think many people will try to imitate and copy him in future. When I see his music video and listening to his old songs, I understand that modern performers are far behind the ideas and passion that he had," said Alexei, a choreography teacher.
During Jackson's last visit to Moscow in September 1996 he was treated as a guest of honour marching with a military band in the war memorial park.
