- Story Text: Swiss fans rejoiced in the streets of Basel after their team beat Portugal 2-0 in their final game of Euro 2008.
Euro 2008 hosts Switzerland gave their fans something to cheer about after they beat Portugal 2-0 in their final game of the tournament on Sunday (June 15).
Swiss fans partied in the streets of Basel despite their team failing to qualify for the quarter finals.
"It is nevertheless positive because it is a fantastic way to end the tournament, with a victory, that's super. Great. Positive for the future," Swiss fan Thomas Kolo said.
Hakan Yakin scored both goals, firing home in the 71st minute when he was set up by fellow striker Eren Derdiyok and then converting an 83rd-minute penalty to give retiring coach Koebi Kuhn something to smile about after a disappointing tournament for the co-hosts.
Portugal will now go on to play the runners up of Group B, which will be decided in Monday night's games between Poland and Croatia and Germany and co-hosts Austria. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
