- Story Text: Moscow is getting ready to brace the biggest March snowfall in 50 years on Wednesday (March 13).
The weather in Moscow hs started to change from frosty and dry to a heavy snowfall in early morning hours. The local authorities promised to use more than 15,000 snow-ploughs to tackle the amount of snow to fall on the city.
Weather forecasters predict that up to 25 centimetres of snow will fall in Moscow in the next three days. The mayor's offic urged Muscovites to shun their cars and use public transport instead.
Social workers flooded the streets of Moscow to tackle the amount of snow and make the life of pedestrians a little bit easier.
Tempratures are expected to go below minus 20 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours.
Even for Moscow known for its harsh climate, it is an unlikely weather at this time of the year. This week Russians traditionally mark the coming of sping with people baking pancakes and celebrating the Maslenitsa festival. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
